LMT installs traffic monitoring solutions in 26 locations around Riga
LMT will install 26 traffic monitoring solutions in Riga over the next 12 months to improve traffic safety in Latvia’s capital.
LMT’s solution will record offenses such as running a red light, illegally using the public transport lane, prohibited stopping at an intersection, and disobeying advanced traffic signals. The first batch of traffic monitoring solutions has already been installed.
LMT’s solution has various functionalities, including object detection, classification, and tracking of object movements, vehicle license plate detection, traffic light detection, and more. In cases of potential violations, the solution passes the information to the Riga Municipal Policy and Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), which decides on the offense and penalty to be imposed.
“The aim of traffic monitoring devices is to improve road safety, which is why they are installed at high-traffic intersections with a significant number of dangerous maneuvers. We hope that LMT’s solution will help us significantly improve the overall driving culture and reduce the number of traffic accidents in Riga,” says Juris Lūkass, Chief of the Riga Municipal Police
LMT’s solutions are already in place in several cities around Latvia and Graz, Austria. LMT was granted the right to install the monitoring systems in Riga after winning a procurement.
LMT’s traffic monitoring solution combines high-resolution cameras with machine vision and edge computing. Traffic infringements are evaluated on the edge, and if an infraction is detected, the information is sent to servers through the mobile network for further analysis.
Edge computing enables the use of existing mobile network coverage and reduces installation requirements. The solution can be installed in a matter of hours without construction and only requires an electrical connection. As a result, municipalities do not require significant infrastructure investments to benefit from smart city technologies.
